Five Killed, Three Injured after Small Plane Crash in Yorba Linda Neighborhood

YORBA LINDA, CA (February 4, 2019) – Five people were dead after a small plane crashed into a neighborhood in Yorba Linda on Sunday, February 3.

According to Allen Kenitzer of the Federal Aviation Administration, at around 2 p.m., a twin-engine Cessna 414A had just left the Fullerton Municipal Airport when the crash occurred under unknown circumstances.

The male pilot who was alone in the plane and two homeowners and two others — two males and two females, were killed in the incident. Their identities were not immediately released.

Two people were brought to a local hospital with burns. The third was a firefighter who twisted his ankle while trying to extinguish the burning home. According to officials on late Sunday, those injured remained hospitalized with moderate injuries.

Witnesses told the authorities that the aircraft appeared to catch fire and disintegrate mid-air before the wreck rained down on the neighborhood at 19900 block of Crestknoll Drive near Glendale Drive, setting a home on fire.

The plane exploded at around 100 feet off of the ground, according to neighbor Jared Bocachica. When he came out, parts of the plane were raining from the sky. The plane didn’t hit and scatter, it blew up and hit the house, he added.

Firefighters responded at the area and found the home engulfed in flames, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

Pieces of the plane were scattered blocks away from the scene. Part of the aircraft was found in the middle of a street, and a part of a wing was leaning against the roof of a home.

The National Transportation Safety Board, the FAA, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department will be investigating the crash.
