1 Dead and 2 Injured in Sacramento Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 99
SACRAMENTO, CA (August 31, 2020) – Saturday night, a 46-year-old driver died in an accident on Highway 99.
The head-on crash involving a wrong-way driver happened at around 11:52 p.m.
According to reports, the wrong-way vehicle, a Honda Accord, headed south in the northbound lanes of 5 Freeway, north of Highway 99.
The California Highway Patrol units came to the traffic crash scene and found out that a Toyota Camry traveled north on 5 Freeway.
However, it then crashed head-on with the wrong-way vehicle, the Honda Accord.
Due to the impact of the crash, the Honda went airborne. Then, the left side of the Honda crashed with a northbound Volvo D13 on the northbound 5 Freeway.
The authorities pronounced the 46-year-old Honda driver dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the Toyota Camry from Sacramento was taken to a nearby hospital with major injuries.
Furthermore, the 38-year-old male Volvo driver from Moore, Idaho, was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries.
At this time, the authorities haven’t determined the estimated speed of the vehicles.
Meanwhile, the authorities diverted the traffic from I-5 northbound to SR-99 northbound for around 2 1/2 hours during the investigation.
