1 Dead in Lake County Car Crash on Highway 20
LAKE COUNTY, CA (January 16, 2020) – A 44-year-old man from Willits died in a car crash on Highway 20 on January 12.
The incident happened at about 4:11 p.m. when a driver of an eastbound 1991 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on Highway 20, just west of Irvine Avenue, drove into oncoming traffic. The Tacoma swerved into the westbound lanes and sideswiped a 57-year-old Kelseyville man driving a 2000 GMC Sierra.
The Sierra then spun while the Tacoma went to westbound lane and crashed head-on with another vehicle. The third vehicle was a 2014 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 51-year-old Eureka male driver and two passengers. This third involved vehicle just drove behind the Sierra. No one sustained injuries in the Dodge Ram and Sierra.
Meanwhile, responders transported the Tacoma driver, a 44-year-old Willits man to Sonoma County for treatment with serious injuries. Afterward, he died at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. His identity remains unreleased as of this time. Meanwhile, the police also confirmed that the deceased didn’t wear a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Authorities suspect alcohol as a factor in the crash which remains under investigation.
