EUREKA, CA (August 23, 2020) – Early Friday morning, a 44-year-old man sustained injuries in a pedestrian crash on 5th Street.
The Eureka Police Department came to the scene of the injury crash at around 6:07 a.m. on August 21st. The incident took place on 5th Street and N Streets. According to reports, the crash was between a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) patrol unit and a pedestrian.
When the officers arrived, they found the 44-year-old pedestrian from Eureka in the roadway. He suffered moderate injuries and medical personnel transported him to St. Joseph ER for treatment. At this time, the pedestrian was listed in stable condition.

Facts about Pedestrians and Accidents
Pedestrians have the right of way at any crosswalk or intersection. Therefore, it’s a driver’s responsibility to yield and be prepared to stop.
While car accidents are far more common than pedestrian accidents, there is still reason to be wary when traveling on foot.
Furthermore, common locations for these pedestrian incidents include shopping center entrances, street corners, and intersections.
“Pedestrian accidents do not occur as much as motor vehicle accidents. Nevertheless, the pedestrian accidents tend to include more serious injuries,” says Tyler Toomey, a practicing attorney at Sweet Lawyers.
