1 Injured in San Diego Pedestrian Crash on Market Street near Interstate 805
SAN DIEGO, CA (October 21, 2020) – On Monday night, a pedestrian suffered injuries in an accident on Market Street near Interstate 805.
According to San Diego police Officer John Buttle, the incident occurred at around 7:40 p.m. It happened on Market Street near an off-ramp from south Interstate 805.
Reports revealed that a westbound 2001 Ford F-150 driven by a 58-year-old man struck something and immediately stopped.
The Ford driver claims that he did not see a person but went out of his vehicle to inspect what he hit. Afterward, the driver found the victim in front of his truck.
Investigation revealed that the pedestrian wore all black clothing. The victim also crossed the street outside a crosswalk.
Meanwhile, authorities do not believe that alcohol and drugs played a role in the crash.
The San Diego Police Department’s traffic division spearheads the investigation.
Facts about Pedestrians and Accidents
Pedestrians have the right of way at any crosswalk or intersection. Therefore, it’s a driver’s responsibility to yield and be prepared to stop.
While car accidents are far more common than pedestrian accidents, there is still reason to be wary when traveling on foot.
Furthermore, common locations for these pedestrian incidents include shopping center entrances, street corners, and intersections.
“Pedestrian accidents do not occur as much as motor vehicle accidents. Nevertheless, the pedestrian accidents tend to include more serious injuries,” says Tyler Toomey, a practicing attorney at Sweet Lawyers.
