David Brihn Faces Multiple Charges following DUI Crash on Fairview Street
SANTA ANA, CA (July 11, 2018) – Four people were hospitalized early Wednesday morning and one was arrested following a multi-vehicle collision on West 1st Street.
As per reports, the bizarre sequence of collisions started at approximately 3:00 AM. A black Nissan Cube, driven by 41-year-old David Brihn of Santa Ana, struck a vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. When he saw that a nearby white Honda sedan witnessed the incident, Brihn began chasing the driver.
The chase, described as a road rage incident by the police, continued for about 1 1/2 miles away from the first crash. Both vehicles ran a red light and struck a GMC pickup truck at West 1st and Fairview streets, causing the truck to flip in the air and land about 60 to 80 feet away from the site. The driver of the Honda lost control of the vehicle and collided with a bicyclist waiting at a stop light at the intersection.
Four people – two Honda occupants, the driver of the pickup truck, and the bicyclist – were transported to the hospital after suffering unspecified injuries. Updates stated that the victims are in critical but stable condition. They are all expected to recover from their injuries.
Brihn got out of his vehicle and entered a nearby ice cream distribution company, where he grabbed Ignacio Morales, an employee from the business. Morales was taken to the area of the crash where responding Santa Ana police officers were investigating.
The Santa Ana driver attempted to convince the investigators that Morales was responsible for the collision. However, the police did not believe his claims, causing Brihn to allegedly fight the responding officers. A stun gun was utilized to subdue the man and take him into custody.
Brihn was booked on suspicion of kidnapping, as well as driving under the influence of drugs, felony hit-and-run, and resisting arrest. Authorities believe that the suspect was also under the influence of a stimulant. No additional information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
