4 People Hospitalized After Multi-Vehicle Crash on State Route 17 in Grant County

Moses Lake, WA (September 29, 2024) – A serious multi-vehicle crash on State Route 17 (SR17) in Grant County on Sunday at 11:20 a.m., injuring four individuals.

The collision, involving six vehicles, was caused by a severe dust storm that reduced visibility, making driving conditions hazardous. 

The chain reaction began when a northbound vehicle slowed down due to the storm, and a second vehicle rear-ended it, triggering a series of collisions involving several other vehicles. 

One vehicle swerved into oncoming traffic, resulting in a head-on collision with a vehicle traveling southbound.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, where four people, including two passengers, were taken to Samaritan Hospital with injuries. 

The drivers ranged in age from 24 to 60 years old, while the passengers included a 1-month-old and a 19-year-old. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, and there was no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.

Significant damage occurred to all six vehicles, with two of them being totaled. 

The Washington State Patrol attributed the crash primarily to the dust storm, which drastically reduced visibility and contributed to the chain reaction.
