The 3rd grader was hit by a new 2022 black Mercedes Crossover at about 8 a.m. on Castlemont Avenue
Immediately, the paramedics rushed the boy to the hospital where he died shortly.
“This is the most tragic possibility: something no mother, no father wants to hear,” said Officer Steve Aponte. “As we go through the day we are going to keep investigating this and if there’s additional information we will put that out there.”
The driver, Shiva Moozoun, is cooperating with the officers’ investigation. Though, Aponte added that no arrests had been made as of 1 p.m. Friday.
“Officers are still with [the driver], trying to talk to them,” Aponte said. The officer also said they do not consider alcohol and drugs as a factor at this time.
According to the investigators, Jacob Villanueva was in a crosswalk with a 44-year-old nanny when they were struck by the vehicle. The nanny was also transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.
