KEARNY MESA, CA (January 7, 2019) – A 39-year-old female pedestrian was taken to a hospital after sustaining several injuries in a crash with a pick-up truck on January 4.
Sgt. Michael Tansey of the San Diego Police Department revealed that the female pedestrian was standing along the south curb in the 7400 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard at 10:00 p.m. when she walked across the street, outside a crosswalk, and was hit by a silver 2000 Chevrolet Silverado truck driving west in the No. 1 lane of the street.
As a result, the pedestrian sustained a lacerated kidney, several fractured ribs and a large hematoma to her head and was taken to a hospital, Tansey added.
Alcohol or drugs were ruled out as a factor in the collision.
Whether you are a driver or a pedestrian, it is important to abide by all traffic laws and observe safety precautions. If you’re behind the wheel, do your part to avoid distractions and look out for pedestrians at all times. If you’re crossing the street, do so at designated crosswalks or intersections. When walking alongside a road, remain on the sidewalk wherever possible. If there is no sidewalk, walk on the shoulder and face oncoming traffic. By obeying traffic laws and being cautious of the conditions of the road, you can help prevent an unforeseen accident and keep yourself and others safe.
