Driver Dies after Crashing Car into Dump Truck on 680 Freeway in Walnut Creek
WALNUT CREEK, CA (September 27, 2019) – A 38-year-old Hayward man died after his car collided with a dump truck early Friday morning in Walnut Creek.
The crash happened around 2:00 a.m. on southbound 680 Freeway at Treat Boulevard.
According to authorities, a Nissan Sentra veered from right to left across several lanes of traffic and collided into a dump truck. The Nissan then overturned and hit the freeway’s center concrete wall.
As a result, the Nissan driver died at the scene. He was trapped inside the car and fire crews had to cut him free from the wreckage with hydraulic tools. He was not wearing his seat belt.
CHP officers described the deceased as a 38-year-old man from Hayward.
The driver of the dump truck, a 43-year-old man, was not injured, the CHP said.
Officers found alcohol bottles in the car, but it remains unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
