SAN DIEGO, CA (November 4, 2019) – A woman suffered critical injuries after being hit by a car Monday evening in Chollas View.
The incident happened around 7:50 p.m. at 47th Street and Hartley Street.
Police said four people were crossing the intersection in a crosswalk that had flashing yellow crossing lights. A northbound Cadillac sedan, driven by a 54-year-old man, failed to stop for the blinking yellow lights and struck two of the four pedestrians.
Paramedics took the victims to a hospital. A 34-year-old woman sustained life-threatening injuries, including a broken pelvis. In addition, a 36-year-old man suffered a broken leg and other injuries. However, these injuries are not considered life-threatening, officials said.
The driver remained at the scene and DUI was not a factor. Further investigation is underway.
When driving in a city or through a neighborhood it is always important to remain on the lookout for pedestrians crossing the street. Keep your eyes on the road and be prepared to brake. A best practice is to assume that the pedestrian does not see you. As a result, this will put you on guard and keep your focus sharp.
