Shawn Thomas Arrested in DUI Crash on Highway 101 in Palo Alto
PALO ALTO, CA (June 16, 2019) – Three women were hospitalized following a DUI crash early Sunday morning in Palo Alto.
The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on Highway 101 at University Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 66-year-old Palo Alto man had slowed down his BMW to look over at the earlier crash that had taken place in the northbound lanes. He was rear-ended by a Honda Civic, driven by a 31-year-old Union City man.
The Honda spun around about 180 degrees until it came to stop facing northbound in the southbound lanes of the highway.
The occupants in the Honda attempted to get out of the car when a blue Nissan collided their car head-on. The three female passengers were injured and transported to Stanford Hospital.
A 30-year-old San Jose woman suffered major injuries, another 30-year-old San Jose woman and a 30-year-old Cupertino woman suffered minor injuries.
Paramedics also took the BMW driver to a hospital with unspecified injuries.
The driver of the Nissan, a 44-year-old Shawn Thomas of Sunnyvale, was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI.
Investigation of this incident is ongoing.
