Passenger Dies After 3-Vehicle Crash on Highway 126 in Ventura

Ventura, CA (September 5, 2024) – On Thursday, one person died, and five others sustained injuries in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 126.

By 5 a.m. Friday, the lanes had reopened. Authorities arrested a 25-year-old woman from Oxnard on suspicion of felony charges.

The three-vehicle collision occurred around 4:50 p.m. east of the Edwards Ranch overpass, between Ventura and Santa Paula, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

A 56-year-old Bakersfield woman, who was a passenger, later died at Los Robles Regional Medical Center, although her name was withheld pending family notification.

CHP officials reported that two children, ages 1 and 2, sustained minor injuries, while three adults suffered moderate to major injuries.

Initially, seven individuals were transported to hospitals. The crash happened when the Oxnard woman, driving a white 2005 Toyota Sienna, lost control and illegally crossed into the center divider, crashing into a white 2011 Ford Ranger.

The Ranger then collided with a silver 2015 Dodge Durango. All three vehicles veered off the road and struck a tree on the highway’s right shoulder.

Firefighters extricated one critically injured patient around 5:20 p.m., who was flown to Los Robles Regional Medical Center.

The deceased passenger was in the Durango, along with the two injured children.

The Durango’s driver, a 33-year-old Pomona woman, suffered moderate injuries, while a 36-year-old Santa Paula man driving the Ford Ranger also sustained moderate injuries. The Oxnard woman sustained major injuries, including a broken ankle.

Witnesses reported seeing the Toyota van driving erratically before the crash.

The accident shut down eastbound lanes of Highway 126 from Wells Road to Briggs Road overnight, causing significant traffic delays.

The incident also delayed a Fillmore High School football game, as Buena High School players were caught in the traffic backup.

Sweet Lawyers extend our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the deceased victim. May the bereaved find solace and strength in this extremely trying time.
