Injuries Reported in Menlo Park Rollover Crash on Valparaiso Avenue and Altschul Avenue
MENLO PARK, CA (January 19, 2021) – Saturday afternoon, three teenagers suffered injuries in a single-vehicle accident on Valparaiso Avenue and Altschul Avenue.
At 12:58 p.m., the San Mateo County Public Safety Communications Center received a report of a rollover crash. The incident involved an SUV with three teenagers occupant. Reports revealed that the vehicle overturned on Valparaiso Avenue and Altschul Avenue.
At 1:01 p.m., the first Menlo fire district engine came to the scene. Upon their arrival, they discovered that two people were stuck in the vehicle. Meanwhile, another one has been thrown off and was lying in the street near a sheered-off light pole.
Thus, crews worked on stabilizing the overturned vehicle and utilized the Jaws of Life to free the trapped occupants by 1:20 p.m.
Afterward, responders transported the driver and passengers to Stanford Hospital via ambulance. Meanwhile, a Menlo Park firefighter/paramedic accompanied each patient.
Meanwhile, fire Chief Harold Schapelhouman said that the crash scene, Sharon Hills Park, is a “significantly steep section of road for this area that slightly winds about with some pedestrian traffic at times.” He added that the vehicle probably drove down the hill when it crashed into the light pole and overturned.
“These three individuals all sustained significant injuries and anytime our Firefighter/Paramedics ride into the hospital with a patient, it speaks to the severity of the emergency and needs to provide the highest and most consistent level of care possible, in order to try and save a life,” Schapelhouman added.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, Menlo Park Police Department, and California Highway Patrol all came to the scene. They also aided firefighters in patient care and scene control before the law enforcement starts their investigation.
At this time, the Sheriff’s Office handles the cause of the crash.
Dealing with Incidents Like Accident on Valparaiso Avenue
Accidents can leave you or your passengers severely injured, disfigured, and permanently disabled. Common events on the road can just as swiftly become safety hazards.
To avoid being involved in a car accident, a driver must aim high in steering. Don’t make your steering adjustments based on what is directly in front of you, but rather what is down the road. If the road is winding to the right, for example, look as far into the turn as possible. This will improve your safety and make your turns smoother.
Also, the most valuable step you can take in response to a crash is hiring a personal injury attorney. Personal injury attorneys prioritize your recovery. At the same time, securing your future from further losses a severe accident can bring.
“A common misconception is that personal injury lawyers don’t care. That is simply not true. Injury lawyers care about and want justice for their clients. Also, we are driven by the desire to make our clients whole again,” says Steve Baric of Sweet Lawyers.
