3 Seriously Injured in Encinitas Car Crash on South Coast Highway 101
ENCINITAS, CA (March 3, 2020) – Three people sustained serious injuries after a car crash on South Coast Highway 101, early Sunday morning.
Sheriff’s deputies detained 28-year-old Christian Dwight Davis, on suspicion of three counts of attempted murder. He reportedly hit three people on the sidewalk outside a bar with his U-Haul van.
Deputies responded to The Saloon Bar in the 500 block of South Coast Highway 101 at 1:19 a.m.
According to witnesses, the male suspect Davis, came from the bar and was asked to leave earlier because he was too drunk. Upon leaving, he went into his van and reportedly drove it on the sidewalk and attempted to hit people standing outside the bar.
Emergency personnel transported one victim to Palomar Medical Center for further treatment. Meanwhile, the other two victims were transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital with serious injuries.
In addition, two bystanders also sustained minor injuries after they restrained the suspect before the deputies came. Medics took them to Scripps Encinitas Hospital for further treatment.
Authorities later arrested Davis and booked him into the Vista Detention Facility. He received four felony charges, three of attempted first-degree murder and one of attempted escape with force.
