Fatalities Reported in Tulare County Accident on Avenue 368 and Road 52
TULARE COUNTY, CA (August 1, 2021) – Saturday afternoon, three people died in a DUI crash on Avenue 368 and Road 52.
The CHP responded to the scene just after 2:30 p.m. on Avenue 368 and Road 52, east of Highway 99.
According to the initial reports, a man traveled at a high rate of speed on the rural roads of Tulare County. Then, he crashed his Toyota Camry head-on into a minivan.
The impact of the crash led to a chain reaction, leading to another crash with an SUV.
“The Camry driver allowed his vehicle to veer to the eastbound lanes. Simultaneously, a 2003 Honda Odyssey was eastbound approaching the oncoming Camry,” revealed CHP Sgt. Ryan Pedersen. “It appears as though the driver of the Honda Odyssey veered to the right in an attempt to avoid being struck by the Camry. However, they collided head-on,”
Also, the authorities discovered alcohol in the late-model Camry and it smelled of alcohol, Pedersen revealed. The Camry’s driver succumbed to injuries in his car.
“There are beer cans inside the Camry and it obviously smells horrible,” Pedersen stated. “So that’s where we come to that conclusion.”
According to reports, the passenger side of the minivan with 3 occupants sustained major damages. The men in the minivan also died at the scene.
Meanwhile, a female occupant of the minivan sustained major injuries. Responders took her to a nearby hospital. At this time, the authorities haven’t disclosed her condition.
