Hit-and-Run Driver Crashes into Mortuary Van near Downtown San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 5, 2018) – Multiple people were hospitalized late Thursday evening following a hit-and-run collision on G Street.
The crash initially took place around 11:00 PM, when a vehicle transporting a body to the morgue was struck by a woman driving a pickup truck on Massachusetts Avenue. The driver of the mortuary van called 911 after the pickup truck fled from the scene. He then proceeded to chase the hit-and-run driver into downtown San Diego.
The pickup reportedly ran a red light before crashing into a light pole and several vehicles at the intersection of G Street and 14th Street in San Diego’s East Village neighborhood. Three people were hospitalized with minor injuries as a result of the collision. Their identities and conditions were not immediately available.
Affected areas were temporarily shut down to allow crews to replace a traffic light that was damaged in the crash. The intersection was opened to the public after seven hours, at approximately 6:30 AM. No additional information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
