3 Injured in Newport Multi-Car Accident on West Coast Highway
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (May 27, 2020) – Late Tuesday morning, three people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on West Coast Highway.
Reports revealed that the crash occurred at around 10:30 a.m. in front of the Balboa Bay Resort at 1221 West Coast Highway. Newport Beach police spokeswoman Heather Rangel said that the crash involved four vehicles.
A Range Rover and a Ferrari drove at a high rate of speed, west on Pacific Coast Highway. As a result, the speeding vehicles hit two other vehicles on the road.
The Range Rover driver remained at the crash scene. However, the Ferrari driver didn’t stop and fled the scene.
Moreover, the authorities managed to track her down and arrested her at her home.
Officers arrested the Ferrari driver on suspicion of evading peace officers and hit and run with property damage.
West Coast Highway Accident Aftermath and Ongoing Investigations
Moreover, the collision temporarily shut down all lanes from Dover Drive to Tustin Avenue on the eastbound and westbound sides.
The crash also injured three people from other vehicles. Responders transported the three to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Furthermore, the officers continue to investigate the cause of the collision. In addition, the incident led to a backup of traffic in the area.
May this be a reminder to all drivers that operating a vehicle is a responsibility that should not be taken lightly. Put all distractions away and be careful around other travelers. Always keep a safe distance from other vehicles around you. By being a defensive driver, you can minimize the risks of car accidents.
California Car Accidents
In 2017, 485,866 accidents were reported solely in the state of California. However, as common of an occurrence as they are, many people do not suspect what follows in the event of a car crash.
When driving, scan the road 1/2 mile to a full mile ahead to check whether there’s a possible hazard. Our bodies weren’t designed to travel at 50mph. We were designed for speeds of less than 10mph. Thus, you need to learn to consciously break that natural instinct and focus farther ahead
