Two Officers Hospitalized after Crash on State Route 79 in San Diego

San Diego, CA (March 1, 2023) – Wednesday afternoon, three officers sustained injuries in a crash on State Route 79.

The crash in San Diego happened around 3:45 p.m. on March 1.

CHP said a group of about 20 officers, all with law enforcement agencies outside of San Diego County, were riding on State Route 79 near School House Canyon Road when seven of them crashed.

EMS rushed one officer suffering a broken ankle in the crash while a second officer was hospitalized with unspecified minor injuries and a third was evaluated by medics at the scene of the crash but not hospitalized.

The CHP is investigating the crash and has not specified the associated agencies of the officers involved.

At least four motorcycles had to be towed away from the crash.

Cal Fire San Diego Captain said snow was to blame, at least partially, for the crash.

Further investigation into the crash on State Route 79 is ongoing.
