Injuries Reported in Salinas Auto Accident on 300 Main Street near Natividad Road
SALINAS, CA (November 3, 2024) – Thursday, 3 people suffered injuries in a startling DUI crash on 300 Main Street near Natividad Road.
The incident occurred in the 300 block of Main Street, ending on Natividad Road near Bernal Drive.
Reports confirmed that the crash injured a 6-year-old, a 12-year-old, and a mom. All of them were taken to the hospital.
“I don’t care if it’s a holiday or if it’s a Tuesday. Drinking and driving is just not a good idea,” said Salinas Police Department Sgt. Zach Dunagan. “Now, you couple that with reckless driving, trying to flee in a scene, and now three innocent people to include two children are seriously injured because of it.”
The Salinas Police Department reports that two drivers were involved in a DUI incident. Around 8:30 p.m., the first driver collided with a car on Main Street and fled the scene. The victim pursued the driver who caused the crash. Police say that at some point, the driver switched seats with a female passenger, who then took over and began driving erratically.
While heading north on Natividad, the woman lost control, veering into the southbound lanes and colliding head-on with a car carrying a mother and her children. Police report that the mother suffered two broken legs, and both children were airlifted to a Bay Area hospital. Their conditions remain unknown.
“Please, if you’re going to go out with your friends, if you’re going to go out with your family, heck, if you’re going to go out by yourself, please make the right decisions,” Dunagan added. “And there’s no excuses nowadays. It’s not like you have to wait for a taxi or use a payphone anymore. There’s apps. It takes minutes. It takes seconds sometimes to get a ride.”
Police report that the male driver faces charges for DUI and hit-and-run, while the woman has been charged with felony DUI and was taken to Natividad for treatment of her injuries.
