Driver Killed in I-44 Vehicle Crash
St. Clair, MO (November 26, 2024) – Three people were injured following a fatal crash on Interstate 44 Saturday night.
The two-vehicle crash happened at 9:10 p.m. on North Service Road near Marcus Drive.
Troopers said a 2010 Mazda 3 was westbound and a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee was eastbound on the service road.
The accident report stated the Mazda was not paying attention and crossed the center line into eastbound lane.
As a result, the front left of the Mazda hit the front left of the Cherokee.
The Mazda was knocked into a spin and went off the side of the road while the Cherokee rested on top of a guardrail.
Responding medical team pronounced the Mazda driver, a 76-year-old man, dead past 10 p.m. while being transported.
Meanwhile, the 18-year-old Cherokee driver and two passengers, ages 17 and 15, sustained serious injuries.
Troopers said, the 76-year-old driver was wearing his seat belt and the three Cherokee occupants were not.
This fatal crash is under investigation.
