Woman and 2 Children Hurt in Lake County Accident on Highway 20 near Reclamation Road
LAKE COUNTY, CA (October 8, 2020) – Monday afternoon, three people sustained injuries in a crash on Highway 20 near Reclamation Road.
The CHP revealed that at about 5:55 p.m., a 39-year-old Lucerne man drove his 2002 Dodge Ram pickup truck. He headed east on Highway 20 near Reclamation Road while eating a hamburger he just bought. Unfortunately, the CHP said, “when suddenly he noticed traffic ahead of him was stopped” due to an earlier crash near Pomo Way.
Then, the Dodge driver hit his brakes but his car struck the rear-end of a 2018 Kia Soul. A 33-year-old Redwood Valley woman drove the Kia with a 3-year-old and 6-year-old passengers.
After the initial crash, the Kia collided with the Honda Accord in front of it. Then, the vehicle was “propelled into the westbound lane and directly into the path of a Ford Explorer.” Afterward, the Honda then struck a fifth vehicle.
Due to the crash, the Kia driver and her juvenile passengers sustained major injuries. Responders took the woman to a Lake County hospital. Meanwhile, they airlifted the 3-year-old to Oakland Children’s Hospital and the 6-year-old to U.C. Davis.
On the other hand, the Dodge driver and the Honda driver were uninjured. Also, the Ford Explorer’s driver and her 1-year-old passenger went to a nearby hospital for precautionary measures. Furthermore, the fifth vehicle’s driver, a Chevrolet HHR, sustained no injuries.
The CHP does not believe that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. However, they determined that distracted driving caused the collision.
Staying within the lanes of the road is an extremely important rule of the road. Moreover, if you feel yourself drifting into other lanes due to fatigue or any other reason, safely pull over and rest before continuing to drive. Also, you can call a friend or an Uber to pick you up if you feel like it would be unsafe to drive.
