PLUMAS COUNTY, CA (August 4, 2021) – Tuesday, three children suffered injuries in an ATV crash near Bucks Creek and Shelter Cove.
 
According to reports, a helicopter transported a five-year-old boy with major injuries to the UC Davis burn center. The incident happened near Bucks Creek north of Shelter Cove.
 
Meanwhile, a separate helicopter transported his two siblings, three and two years old, to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Eureka.
 
Cheryl Antony said, “A ranger from the BLM told us that someone called from the BLM call box located at Black Sands Beach. He said that children were burned.”
 
According to the first reports, three children were burned last night after an ATV crash led to an exploding battery. “Buck Creek has no road,” she added. “You have to hike or take an ATV…They sent someone to go down the beach [this morning] to get help.”
 
Antony revealed, “We sent two of our ATVs and brought them down. They weren’t crying. They were really, really brave kids.”
 
Multiple helicopters came to the scene. However, the fog was too thick for them to land on the beach.
 
“Suddenly the wind changed and [the Cal Fire helicopter] landed right on the sand,” she added. “Our firefighters just picked [the children] up like they were their own kids and carried them over the sand. They put everyone and the medic from Garberville into the helicopter. The oldest one that had the biggest burn on his legs was sent to the Burn Center.”
