TACOMA, WA (February 14, 2023) – Sunday morning, a 25-year-old man died in a head-on crash on Marine View Drive and State Route 509.

The incident happened at around 9:25 a.m. near 1690 Marine View Drive on State Route 509.

According to a witness, the driver blows through a stop sign at high speed before the incident.

Officers confirmed that the man was going north in a Nissan Maxima.

Then, he lost control at a curve in the road, drove across the center line, and hit a southbound Mazda SUV.

Moreover, the man solely occupied his vehicle. At this time, the authorities haven’t disclosed his identity due to pending family notification.

Also, officers said that his car stopped on railroad tracks and was torn in two.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old woman occupied the Mazda SUV, TPD spokesperson Wendy Haddow said.

Responders took the woman to a local hospital for injuries sustained from her seat belt.

The incident shut down Marine View Drive to southbound traffic at Norpoint Way Northeast for about four hours.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
