1 Dead in Vista Car Accident on State Route 78 and Sycamore Avenue
VISTA, CA (January 5, 2021) – Sunday night, a 24-year-old woman died in a wrong-way crash on State Route 78 and Sycamore Avenue.
The fatal incident began at about 10:20 p.m. when a 36-year-old Carlsbad man drove east in the westbound lanes of State Route 78, east of Sycamore Avenue. Then, his pickup truck crashed head-on with a 24-year-old Vista woman driving a sedan.
As a result, both vehicles sustained severe damages. Thus, crews freed both drivers from their cars, stated Battalion Chief Dave Pender of San Marcos Fire Department.
Then, responders took both drivers to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of severe injuries. However, the woman died at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the officers believe that alcohol played a role in the crash.
Due to limited information, the crash remains under active investigation.
