Mission Viejo Fatal Motorcycle Accident on 5 Freeway at La Paz Road
MISSION VIEJO, CA (September 16, 2019) – A 24-year-old man died in a motorcycle accident early Monday morning in Mission Viejo, authorities said.
The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on northbound 5 Freeway at La Paz Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man rode a 2018 Kawasaki motorcycle at an unknown speed when he crashed on the freeway.
The impact ejected him from his bike and he sustained traumatic injuries. Emergency responders on the scene transported the rider to a nearby hospital in grave condition, the CHP said.
According to the Orange County Coroner’s office, the victim died an hour later at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center.
Authorities do not believe the man was under the influence of any substances at the time of the crash. His identity has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The southbound freeway lanes closed for about two hours while an investigation was conducted.
