17-Year-Old Girl Arrested on Fatal DUI Crash in Sunnyvale
SUNNYVALE, CA (October 6, 2019) – A woman died following a DUI crash early Sunday morning in Sunnyvale, authorities said.
The crash happened around 5:02 a.m. along the westbound lanes of Highway 237 near the transition ramp to northbound Highway 101.
According to the CHP, a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado went off the roadway and crashed into a tree. It then overturned and landed on its roof against the tree.
As a result, the female passenger in the truck died at the scene. Authorities only identified her as a 21-year-old San Jose woman.
The driver, a 17-year-old girl from San Jose, sustained cuts and scrapes. She was later arrested on suspicion of DUI.
CHP officials shut down the Highway 237 west connector ramp to northbound Highway 101 while they investigated the crash. The highway was reopened just after 10:00 a.m.
