52-year-old Pedestrian, Raul Jaime Arrested in Merced County Crash
Merced County, CA (October 25, 2021) – On Monday, officers arrested 21-year-old Raul Jaime in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Highway 99.
The fatal incident took place at around 2 a.m. on the northbound freeway, north of Atwater Boulevard.
The authorities said a 24-year-old driver thought struck an object in the road. However, he realized he struck a man and immediately called 911 for assistance.
When the investigators arrived, they said the 52-year-old victim has already been struck by another driver.
Unfortunately, the pedestrian died at the scene.
Moreover, the officers discovered a broken license plate registered to a 2018 Toyota Camry in Livingston. Hours later, they arrested Jaime, the vehicle owner, on hit-and-run charges.
Meanwhile, the authorities are still investigating what led to the fatal incident and searching for more evidence. They do not consider alcohol as a factor in the crash.
