Passenger Dies in Early Morning DUI Crash on 80 Freeway in Fairfield
FAIRFIELD, CA (September 25, 2019) – A 20-year-old Richmond man died following a suspected DUI crash early Wednesday morning in Fairfield.
The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. on eastbound 80 Freeway west of Air Base Parkway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 20-year-old Suisun City man was driving a Honda Civic at a high rate of speed when he struck the rear of a tractor trailer. He then crossed all lanes of the highway and hit the center median.
As a result, the male passenger in the Honda died at the scene. His name has not yet been released pending family notification.
The Honda driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the hospital. He is suspected to have been driving under the influence.
No arrests have been made at this time, but investigation of this crash is ongoing.
