Toddler Killed and Driver Hospitalized after Two-Vehicle Collision near Lookout Mountain
JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO (August 10, 2018) – A toddler was killed Friday afternoon and two adults were hospitalized following a suspected DUI crash on Interstate 70.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the collision took place at about 3:10 PM near Lookout Mountain. A silver Pontiac, driven by a 28-year-old woman, was traveling east on the highway when it crossed over the median and slammed into a westbound pickup truck.
A 2-year-old girl inside the Pontiac sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Meanwhile, the Pontiac driver and the 43-year-old man driving the pickup were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Their identities and current condition were not immediately released.
Authorities believe that the woman was intoxicated at the time of the crash. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the accident and to identify other possible contributing factors. No additional information has been disclosed to the public.
