Child Fatally Struck by Vehicle after Running into Banff Street in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (November 17, 2019) – A 2-year-old boy was hit and killed by a turning vehicle after running into the street Sunday afternoon.
The fatal incident happened around 2:39 p.m. at the intersection of Banff Street and Danube Way. The location was near the junction of 680 Freeway and Highway 101.
While the boy’s family loaded up their car nearby, he ran out from between two parked cars and into the street, according to police. A man driving westbound in a 2018 Dodge pickup truck rounded the corner onto Banff Street and struck the child.
Paramedics responded to the scene and rushed the child to a local hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, the boy was declared dead.
The coroner’s office did not release the victim’s name pending formal identification.
The Dodge driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.
Alcohol, drugs and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash, police said.
Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective Michael O’Brien of the San Jose Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit at (408) 277-4654.
