Terrible 2-Vehicle Crash on FM 769 Left 3 People Dead, 1 Injured [Plains, TX]

Gage Emijedio Sandoval, Crystal Mendoza, and Javier Esparza Quinonez Dead in Crash on FM 769 in Plains

Plains, TX (November 27, 2023) – On Saturday afternoon, Gage Emijedio Sandoval, Crystal Mendoza, and Javier Esparza Quinonez died in a crash on FM 769.

At approximately 3:37 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, a 2021 Jeep Compass traveled northbound on FM 769 toward the intersection with US 82. Simultaneously, a 2023 Ford Edge was proceeding southwest on US 82, heading towards the same intersection, as stated in a DPS release.

The Jeep, driven by Gage Emijedio Sandoval, 20, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, “failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign” at the intersection, entering the path of the Ford. The collision between the two vehicles occurred about 14.9 miles southwest of Plains, according to the release.

Tragically, Sandoval, along with the two passengers, Crystal Mendoza, 40, and Javier Esparza Quinonez, 43, both from Clovis, lost their lives at the scene. The release notes that Quinonez was the only occupant not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Ford sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Nor-Lea Hospital District in Lovington. Fortunately, the two child passengers in the Ford were unharmed in the incident.
