1 Driver Dies After Crash on Alameda Road NE in Albuquerque

Albuquerque, NM (August 7, 2024) – On Wednesday, one person died in a two-vehicle crash on Alameda Road NE involving a deputy.

The Albuquerque Police Department’s (APD) Fatal Crash Team arrived at the intersection of Alameda Road N.E. and Edith Blvd. N.E. to investigate a fatal crash between two vehicles: a Silver Honda Accord and a marked Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) field unit, a Ford Explorer.

Initial findings show that both vehicles were traveling northbound on Edith N.E. The APD Fatal Crash Team led the investigation, with the BCSO Fatal Team providing support.

The BCSO unit rear-ended the Honda Accord, which then collided with a wall. According to BCSO deputies, the involved deputy had radioed that the Honda was a suspicious vehicle and that he had lost sight of it.

The deputy also reported that the Honda had brake-checked him.

Emergency responders pronounced the Honda’s driver dead at the scene; the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

The deputy was unharmed and did not require hospitalization. The front and side curtain airbags in the Honda, as well as the BCSO unit’s front airbag, deployed.

The BCSO deputy invoked his right to remain silent and will be interviewed later.

Authorities found no evidence of alcohol or drug use and, after canvassing the area, found no witnesses or additional evidence.
