Man in Wheelchair and Caretaker Hit by Dump Truck near 19th Street
COSTA MESA, CA (May 22, 2019) – A man in a wheelchair and his caretaker suffered injuries Wednesday afternoon after they were struck by a dump truck on Anaheim Avenue.
According to the Costa Mesa Police Department, the incident happened between 19th Street and Plumer Street, at about 4:00 PM. The victims attempted to cross the street in a marked crosswalk when the dump truck hit them.
Emergency responders transported the 72-year-old man to Hoag Hospital with minor injuries. Meanwhile, the 53-year-old caretaker suffered serious injuries and is listed in critical condition. Further updates on the victims were not provided.
The truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the collision.
