FAA Investigate Plane Crash on Interstate 17 in Yavapai County

Yavapai County, AZ (November 17, 2024) – A small plane crash on Interstate 17 on Sunday injured two people, authorities reported.

A single-engine Cessna 172 went down near Cordes Lakes around 9:40 a.m. on Nov. 17, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). 

The crash occurred east of Interstate 17, close to Bloody Basin Road, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) confirmed.

After receiving a 911 call, deputies responded and located the plane near the bottom of a canyon using off-road vehicles. 

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter transported the two individuals, who suffered minor injuries, to a Phoenix hospital for treatment. Both victims have since been stabilized, YCSO reported.

The passenger told deputies the crash happened because the plane’s engine failed. The FAA is currently investigating the incident.
