Sergio Bautista Arrested After Hit-And-Run Crash on 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ (September 15, 2024) – Phoenix police have taken Sergio Bautista into custody after he allegedly committed a hit-and-run and drove the wrong way while impaired early Saturday morning.

Sergio Bautista, 29, faces multiple charges following his reported involvement in running over two people and nearly colliding with a Phoenix police patrol car while driving in the wrong direction.

Around 1:45 a.m., police responded to a hit-and-run incident near 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road. Upon arrival, officers found a man and woman injured on the road. 

They had been struck by Bautista’s vehicle as they crossed the street, and he fled the scene. The victims were hospitalized and are expected to recover.

An officer, responding to an unrelated call, had exited the I-10 freeway and turned north onto 43rd Avenue when he had to swerve to avoid a pickup truck traveling south in the northbound lanes. 

The officer subsequently caught up with the truck and pulled Bautista over.

Bautista was detained at the scene, where police determined he was impaired. 

He now faces several charges, including aggravated DUI, aggravated assault, and leaving the scene of the accident.
