2 Hurt in Douglas County Crash on Highway 2 and Highway 97
DOUGLAS COUNTY, WA (December 7, 2020) – Friday, two people suffered injuries in an accident on Highway 2 and Highway 97.
Due to the crash between a Chevy Suburban and a semi-truck, Highway 2 in the Orondo area was shut down for more than two hours.
State Patrol Trooper John Bryant stated that a 70-year-old Waterville man and a passenger were trying to turn left at the stop sign onto southbound Highway 97.
“Unfortunately he failed to yield to a semi. Fortunately, the semi had an empty trailer which made a difference in the collision I think, that was coming in the northbound and the vehicles collided.”
As a result, two people in the Suburban sustained minor injuries and were taken to Central Washington Hospital.
Furthermore, Bryant revealed that there was also a diesel leak that needed cleanup.
“We were able to create an alternate route with the help of DOT. Of course, that does still slow down traffic and the road was closed for 2:15, so quite a long time to clean up and get the road back to being ready.”
Meanwhile, the Waterville resident will receive a citation for failure to yield.
