2 LAPD Officers Hurt in Crippling DUI Crash on 58 Freeway near Yorba Linda Boulevard [Fullerton, CA]

Injuries Reported in Fullerton Auto Accident on 58 Freeway near Yorba Linda Boulevard

FULLERTON, CA (November 22, 2023) – Tuesday morning, 2 LAPD officers were hurt in a crippling DUI crash on 58 Freeway near Yorba Linda Boulevard.

The incident occurred on 58 Freeway near the Yorba Linda Boulevard exit around 2:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, LAPD Chief Michel Moore revealed that the incident began with the pursuit of a suspected stolen vehicle in the department’s Newton Division. Then, the chase continued onto the 57 Freeway in Orange County and went on Atlantic Avenue in Lynwood.

“During the course of that pursuit, it was believed that the suspect inside the vehicle had thrown an object from it,” Moore revealed. Meanwhile, officers arrested the chase suspect.

Officers booked the suspect, 31-year-old Jose Alinado of Compton, on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, police said.

Meanwhile, officers went back along the path of the chase in an attempt to find whatever was thrown from the suspect’s vehicle. However, as they drove on the freeway, they were “violently struck” by another driver.

Then, the authorities arrested the woman driving the Infiniti that struck the officers on suspicion of driving under the influence. She was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, said CHP Lt. Matthew Barnachia.

Meanwhile, both officers sustained significant injuries and were transported to UCI Medical Center. Both of them are expected to make a full recovery.

“Both of them are talking. They’re both conscious,” Moore added. “In the initial moments (after) the collision, the driving officer… he’s actually a training officer, lost consciousness and we had some significant concerns.”

Also, the CHP issued a SigAlert for the northbound 57 Freeway and Yorba Linda Boulevard and shut down all lanes of the freeway for hours.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
