Prison Van Rear-Ends Big Rig on 210 Freeway in Rancho Cucamonga
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA (October 30, 2019) – Two officers and an inmate in a prison van were injured following a traffic collision early Wednesday morning in Rancho Cucamonga.
The collision happened around 4:30 a.m. on 210 Freeway at Carnelian Street. CHP said the prison van was heading eastbound on the freeway at approximately 65 mph. A tractor-trailer in front of it traveled about 5 mph and merged into the HOV lane. That is because the two right lanes closed due to a prior collision.
As the tractor-trailer slowed for traffic ahead, the van rear-ended it. As a result, it became wedged underneath the big rig’s trailer and rear wheels.
The three passengers in the van were all transported via AMR ambulance to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with moderate to major injuries.
Authorities are still investigating the crash and factors involved.
