Fatal Car Crash near Mack Road and Stockton Boulevard Exit
SACRAMENTO, CA (June 7, 2018) – Two men were killed in a multiple-vehicle accident on Highway 99 in South Sacramento, early Thursday morning.
The collision occurred around 2:00 AM on the northbound Highway 99, near Mack Road and the Stockton Boulevard Exit. The initial accident was between a white Toyota sedan and Honda sedan, and resulted in the Toyota on its roof in the fast lane.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the 21-year-old driver and 22-year-old passenger from the Honda pulled over to the right shoulder and ran across the highway to assist the driver out of the overturned Toyota. Both returned back to the vehicle to make sure no one else was inside.
At the same time, a 2002 Chevrolet driven by a 31-year-old woman, broadsided the Toyota. The impact of the collision sent both men into the southbound lanes of the freeway. They were both pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Their identities have not yet been released to the public, pending notification of family.
All lanes of the northbound and southbound lanes on Highway 99 were closed for several hours after the collision during investigation and cleanup of wreckage. Lanes reopened around 4:00 AM. Authorities continue to investigate the fatal crash in order to reveal the cause and events leading up to the accident. No additional information was disclosed.
