Deadly Hit-and-Run on Normandie Avenue in South LA
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (September 25, 2019) — A hit-and-run on Normandie Avenue left two pedestrians dead Tuesday night.
The incident occurred near 95th Street at about 8:30 p.m. according to the California Highway Patrol.
One of the victims was a 47-year-old man who died at the scene. The emergency responders transported the second pedestrian to the hospital with critical injuries. Unfortunately, the man, who was in his 20s, later succumbed to his injuries.
The CHP reported that family members were present at the scene and witnessed the collision. They said a Mercedes sedan traveling on Normandie Avenue struck the two men while they were crossing 95th Street.
The driver of the car sped off afterward. But its license plate fell off and was left behind. This allowed the police to track the owner of the vehicle to a nearby residence.
However, the officers said there was no sign of the suspect at the home. They believe that the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Meantime, further investigation is underway. The search for the hit-and-run driver continues.
