Two Unidentified Men Dead after Crash on US Highway 57 in Batesville

Batesville, TX (May 4, 2023) – Thursday afternoon, two men died, and two others sustained injuries in a crash on US Highway 57. 

The fatal crash on US Highway 57 in Batesville happened around 12:30 p.m. on May 4, just Southwest of San Antonio.

Police said that the driver of a black SUV was involved in human smuggling and was speeding down the highway to evade police. That’s when the SUV collided with a semi-tanker truck that was hauling fuel.

Authorities said two men died at the scene. They believe the two were undocumented migrants.

Both the driver of the black SUV and the semi were transported to a trauma hospital in San Antonio.

Moreover, one of the responding deputies sustained some injuries while extracting the driver from the black SUV as it caught on fire.

Further investigation to determine the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
