Cajon Pass Fatal Collision Results in Injury
Cajon Pass, CA (June 27, 2023) – On Monday, two people were killed and another was injured in a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 15.
The traffic collision took place at about 3:49 a.m. on the northbound freeway about a mile after the Kenwood Avenue exit.
Immediately, both the California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino Fire Department responded to the crash scene wherein one of the involved vehicles became fully engulfed in flames.
It has been reported a white Toyota Highlander with front-end damage, a white Nissan Versa with major rear-end that caught fire, and a black Buick Verano with major front-end damage, were involved in the accident.
CHP’s preliminary collision report said the Toyota and the Nissan collided in a dark area of the freeway. Just a minute after that collision, the Buick rear-ended the Nissan making it to burst into flames. Officers said it was possible that the Buick probably couldn’t see the Nissan as it was dark and stopped in the lanes.
Unfortunately, two people succumbed to their injuries at the crash scene while a person was transported to the hospital with minor to major injuries with a shoulder injury.
The authorities withheld the identities of the deceased pending notification of kin.
CHP officers are still investigating the possible cause of the Cajon Pass fatal collision.
