Vehicle Goes into Creek along Highway 33 in Ojai Killing Two
OJAI, CA (May 24, 2019) – Two people were killed following a rollover crash Friday afternoon in Ojai, according to Ventura County Fire Department.
The fatal crash happened around 4:47 p.m. along Highway 33 near Matilija Canyon Road.
Crews on the scene reported a vehicle had gone off the highway and went into North Matilija Creek, where it landed on its roof as it partially submerged in the creek.
The California Highway Patrol reported that a person or body was still in the vehicle and not moving, with their back against a window.
Emergency and search-and-rescue crews were dispatched, but later called off when the victim was found to be dead.
Another occupant was also reportedly killed in the crash, but no further details were provided.
Caltrans officials were called to the scene to close the roadway while authorities retrieved the vehicle from the creek.
The full circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
