Speeding Car Catches Fire on Eight Mile Road in Stockton Killing Two
STOCKTON, CA (February 11, 2020) – Two people were killed following a fiery crash Tuesday afternoon in Stockton, CHP officials said.
The crash happened just before 3:00 p.m. on Eight Mile Road near 5 Freeway, in front of Oak Grove Park.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a silver Infiniti sedan was speeding and driving erratically on eastbound Eight Mile Road from 5 Freeway. After attempting to pass traffic on the left, it lost control, crashed into a wooden fence, taking out five sections. The car then knocked down a light pole and a tree, before bursting into flames.
There were three people inside the vehicle. Two occupants were pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials said. Their identities were not immediately available.
The third occupant was able to escape from the burning car. Paramedics took the patient to an area hospital in an unknown condition.
All eastbound lanes of Eight Mile Road in front of Oak Grove Park were closed while authorities investigated the scene.
