2 Dead in South Bay Auto Accident on State Route 85 near Saratoga Avenue

SOUTH BAY, CA (August 28, 2024) – Monday afternoon, 2 people died in a brutal wrong-way crash on State Route 85 near Saratoga Avenue.

Reports said that the incident occurred at 3:40 p.m. when a wrong-way driver traveled south in the northbound lanes of State Route 85 near Saratoga Avenue.

The driver of a white Toyota Tacoma was speeding, according to the CHP. As officers were en route, the Toyota collided head-on with a white Tesla Model Y in the northbound lanes of State Route 85, just south of State Route 87, the CHP reported.

Tragically, both the 47-year-old female Tesla driver and a 14-year-old male passenger, both residents of San Jose, lost their lives. The Toyota driver, a 39-year-old man from Orlando, Florida, was transported to the hospital with “major injuries,” according to the CHP.

Northbound lanes of Route 85 were temporarily closed while investigators gathered evidence. The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and it’s unclear whether the Toyota driver was under the influence at the time.
