SUV Slames Box Truck on 5 Freeway in Zamora, Both Catch Fire Leaving Two People Dead
ZAMORA, CA (August 23, 2019) – Two people were killed and three others were injured following a fiery crash early Friday morning in Zamora.
The crash was reported around 12:17 a.m. on northbound 5 Freeway south of County Road 95.
According to the California Highway Patrol, an SUV was heading northbound on the freeway when for unknown reasons, it slammed into the side of a box truck.
As a result of the crash, both vehicles caught fire, CHP said.
Witnesses told CHP the box truck was sideways in traffic at the time of the crash.
Two people in the SUV were unable to get out of their vehicle and died at the scene. Three others were transported to area hospitals.
Crews took several hours to clear the roadway, but the freeway has since reopened.
Officials do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
