Driver and Passenger Fatally Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision near Utica Avenue
KETTLEMAN CITY, CA (September 6, 2018) – Two people were killed Thursday afternoon, following a head-on crash on Highway 41. The identities of the victims were not immediately released to the public, pending notification of family members.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 3:30 PM near Utica Avenue, about halfway between Kettleman City and the Reef City crossroads. A dark gray Dodge Ram was heading south on the highway when it drifted into the path of a white GMC.
The driver and the front seat passenger of the GMC sustained fatal injuries, and they were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Two people occupying the back seat suffered minor injuries. Meanwhile, the driver of the Dodge Ram was airlifted to a local hospital and was listed in critical condition.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision and to identify possible contributing factors. No additional information has been disclosed at this time.
