Two Military Personnel Die in MTVR Crash on US 17 and Highway 210 in Jacksonville
Jacksonville, CA (January 20, 2022) – Wednesday afternoon, two military personnel died and 17 others sustained injuries in a crash on US 17 and Highway 210.
The crash in Jacksonville happened at around 1 p.m. on January 19.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the vehicle was about to turn right at an intersection when it fell into a median strip and expelled 17 passengers from the vehicle.
“The second military vehicle, which was driving behind the first vehicle, could not stop and attacked one of the expelled passengers,” they added.
As a result, EMS took two of the injured passengers to a hospital in Wilmington, North Carolina in severe condition. The other 15 injured are now in stable condition at the Navy Hospital in Camp Lejeune.
Two people died at the scene.
Moreover, the vehicles involved in the collision were described as “Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR)-more commonly referred to as” 7 tonnes “and used primarily for military and equipment transport purposes.
The driver of the capsized vehicle, identified as 19-year-old Louis Valera, charged with one count beyond safe speed and two counts of misdemeanor by car.
