2 Injured After SUV Crashes into Restaurant in Covina

COVINA, CA (August 23, 2019) – Two people suffered injuries in an SUV crash on San Bernardino Road Wednesday night.

The crash occurred about 10:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of West San Bernardino Road.

A surveillance video showed that the driver of a Kia Sorento lost control while traveling on San Bernardino Road. The SUV subsequently crashed at full speed into the brick wall of Mar Y Tierra Restaurant. It went halfway inside the building which was closed at the time.

The video also showed emergency responders treating two patients after the crash. They complained of pain and were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigators ruled out drugs or alcohol as factors in the crash. They said the driver may have fallen asleep prior to the incident.

Crews boarded up the front of the restaurant Thursday morning as its brick wall was left in pieces. The building has been red-tagged.

Driver fatigue significantly increases the risk of a road accident. Safely pull over and rest before continuing to drive if you feel yourself drifting into other lanes due to fatigue or any other reason. It is important not to place yourself in a situation that involves driving when you feel tired and sleepy. It impairs your ability to respond quickly and safely if a dangerous situation arises while you are on the road.
